The book “The FDA’s War on Truth: How Government Censorship is Killing Your Health Freedom” points out that for over a century, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has operated as a gatekeeper of health information, suppressing truthful claims about natural remedies while fast-tracking dangerous pharmaceuticals.
What began as a noble effort to protect consumers from fraudulent medicines has devolved into a corrupt system that prioritizes corporate profits over public health. The FDA’s censorship regime violates the First Amendment, stifles innovation and keeps Americans sicker than ever – while Big Pharma reaps the rewards.
The FDA’s war on truth started in 1906 with the Pure Food and Drug Act, designed to prevent adulterated products from reaching consumers. But by 1938, the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act expanded the agency’s power, requiring drugs to be proven safe before sale – a reasonable precaution that soon morphed into bureaucratic overreach.
The 1962 Kefauver-Harris Amendments went further, demanding that drugs demonstrate efficacy, a standard the FDA weaponized to suppress natural health claims. Suddenly, herbs and nutrients that had been used safely for millennia were treated like unapproved drugs if they dared to mention health benefits.
Congress attempted to rein in FDA censorship with the 1994 Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act, recognizing that supplements should not be regulated like pharmaceuticals. Yet the FDA found loopholes, maintaining its chokehold on truthful information. Even after the landmark Pearson v. Shalala ruling in 1999 – where courts declared the FDA’s suppression of qualified health claims unconstitutional – the agency continued stonewalling, forcing manufacturers to jump through endless hoops before allowing even watered-down statements.
The FDA’s double standard is glaring. While natural supplements face impossible barriers, dangerous drugs sail through approval.
Meanwhile, the FDA blocks selenium manufacturers from citing NIH-backed research showing it reduces cancer risk. Vitamin D, proven to support immune function, remains censored – even as pandemic-era hospitalizations soared among the deficient.
The FDA’s corruption runs deep. Former commissioners routinely cycle through pharmaceutical boardrooms, turning public service into private profiteering.
The agency’s budget depends on Big Pharma’s “user fees,” creating an obvious conflict of interest. When Pfizer paid the FDA $1.1 billion in 2020, was it funding regulation – or buying influence?
Legal challenges, like those led by the Alliance for Natural Health (ANH), have exposed the FDA’s unconstitutional censorship. ANH’s 2025 petition demanded approval for 118 government-backed nutrient-disease claims – facts like “omega-3s reduce heart disease risk” and “vitamin D lowers cancer incidence” – already acknowledged by the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The FDA’s refusal proves its loyalty lies with drug companies, not the public.
Decentralized technologies now offer hope:
The FDA’s war on truth is a war on your freedom. Every censored claim, every raided supplement company and every life lost to preventable disease is a testament to its failure.
But the tide is turning. Courts are rejecting FDA overreach, activists are mobilizing and technology is breaking the information blockade.
Health freedom isn’t a privilege – it’s a right. The FDA has no authority to decide what you’re allowed to know about your own body.
The future of medicine depends on breaking the FDA’s monopoly – before it breaks us.
